Extrait de Parfum vs Eau de Parfum: What’s the Difference?

By AORA Fragrance Atelier • 5 min read • September 08, 2026

When you shop for fragrance, you will often see terms such as Eau de Toilette, Eau de Parfum, Parfum and Extrait de Parfum. These names mainly help describe the concentration and style of a fragrance, but concentration alone does not guarantee exactly how long a scent will last.

What does fragrance concentration mean? A fragrance is generally made from aromatic materials blended into a carrier, commonly alcohol. As the proportion of fragrance concentrate changes, the perfume can feel lighter, richer, softer or more persistent. Eau de Toilette is typically lighter, Eau de Parfum is usually richer, while Parfum and Extrait de Parfum sit toward the more concentrated end of the spectrum.

At AORA Collection, our fragrances are created at a 30% fragrance concentration and presented as Extrait de Parfum. The goal is a rich scent experience with enough presence for people who enjoy fragrance that feels substantial rather than disappearing quickly.

Does stronger always mean louder? Not necessarily. Concentration and projection are different things. A fresh citrus fragrance can smell bright and noticeable but may naturally evolve faster than a dense amber, vanilla or oud composition. Likewise, a concentrated fragrance can sometimes sit closer to the skin while lasting for many hours.

Which concentration should you choose? Choose according to how you wear fragrance. A lighter scent can be ideal when you want something subtle. A richer Extrait can suit people who prefer fewer applications, deeper dry-downs and a more luxurious fragrance experience.

AORA offers fresh, woody, sweet, floral, gourmand and oud-led profiles, so concentration is only the beginning. The scent family and the way it develops on your skin matter just as much.

AORA scents to exploreFor fresh sophistication, try INFINITY or ILLUSION. For warm sweetness, explore OBSESSION, TEMPTATION or HEAVEN. For richer oud character, look at ARABIAN GOLD, PASSION OUD, SHADOW OUD or SILK OUD.

AORA tip:

Test fragrance on your own skin and give it time to reach the dry-down before deciding. Your favourite part may appear well after the first spray.
